Photographer Anton Fury now wants an answer of who shot Marilyn Monroe’s early career pictures that has been in his possession for most that 30 years now after he acquired it froma backyard sale in the 1980s. During her short life, Marilyn Monroe overcame a difficult childhood to become the world’s largest and most enduring sex symbols. She never knew her father and her mother, Gladys, were placed in a mental institution after she developed some psychiatric problems. Growing up, Marilyn Monroe spent much of his time in foster care and orphanage. In 1937, a family friend and her husband, Grace and Doc Goddard, took care of her for several years. But when Doc’s job was transferred in 1942 on the east coast, Marilyn Monroe is again left alone as the couple could not take her along.
Marilyn Monroe’s early marriage and career
Once again, Marilyn Monroe faced life in foster care. However, it is one way out-marry. It is Wednesday, her boyfriend Jimmy Dougherty 19th June 1942. Merchant marine, Dougherty then had to work abroad and this led Marilyn Monroe to the need of making money by her own. During these times she was discovered by a photographer in Burbank. By the time Dougherty returned in 1946, Marilyn Monroe had a successful career as a model. She dreamed of becoming an actress like Jean Harlow and Lana Turner.
Her marriage fizzled as Marilyn Monroe focused more on his career. Couple divorced in 1946-the year he signed his first movie contract. But her acting career did not really take off all of 1950. Her small part in John Huston drama crime Asphalt Jungle (1950) earned her a lot of attention. That same year she impressed audiences and critics alike as Claudia Caswell in All about Eve, starring Bette Davis.
Marilyn Monroe’s rising as a star
In 1953, Marilyn Monroe made a star-making turn in Niagara, starring as a young married woman out to kill her husband with her lover. The emerging sex symbol was paired with another bomb, Jane Russell, the musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). The movie was a hit and Marilyn Monroe continued to find success in a series of light comedic fare, like How to Marry a Millionaire with Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall, and seven years fidelity (1955). With her breathy voice and hourglass figure, Marilyn Monroe became a much admired and a very famous international star.
Tired of bubbly, dumb blonde roles, Marilyn Monroe moved to New York to study acting with Lee Strasberg at The Actors’ Studio. She returned to the screen in a dramatic comedy, Bus Stop (1956), playing a saloon singer kidnapped rancher who has fallen in love with her. He has received mostly praise for his performance.
In 1959, Marilyn Monroe returned to comedy with the famous “Some like It Hot” movie starring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. She played Sugar Kane Kowalczyk, a singer who hopes to marry a millionaire in this humorous film in which Lemmon and Curtis masquerade women. They are on the run from the mob after witnessing St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and hide out with all the girls orchestra featuring Marilyn Monroe. Her work on the film earned her a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy.
In just 36 years, Marilyn Monroe died 5th August 1962, at her home in Los Angeles. An empty bottle of sleeping pills were found in her bed. There was some speculation over the years that might have been killed, but was officially ruled a drug overdose.
During his career, Marilyn Monroe films grossed more than $ 200 million. It is still popular today as an icon of sex appeal and beauty.
